Wow, we did a lot today. We were making bricks for a new resources building at the local school. We all went down to the river to collect sand for the cement. We then went back to the school and mixed the cement, water, concrete, sand. We fill up the moulds with cement and turn them out. Some of them kept breaking. Today alone we made 42 bricks! Rebecca
We sat around the fire wile the Zulu families danced and sang for us. We then joined in on the dancing which was so much fun. It is cool to have no electricity or running water, something new to experience! Charlene

I’m having a break from making bricks, I’m really enjoying experiencing Zulu culture however, making bricks is hard work! It’s great to be learning new stuff and socialising with new people. Lauren
We are having a brilliant and detailed insight to Zulu culture and life. Jack

| I am surprised at how much I am enjoying this Homestay. I feel really comfortable here and very lucky to be experiencing this, as I know I will never really do something like this again. Making the bricks, although its hard work it’s making me feel I am giving something back rather than just being touristy. Jessica |

I’m sad about leaving here…it’s been such an experience. Delano
The brick making was one heck of an exercise, heavy and hard labour. But it has made me appreciate how hard people work to provide for their families and themselves here. I liked the walk with the medicine Doctor, we learnt the importance of plants to the community for healing. The walk through the thick foliage and dense luscious cluster of trees with him and the hike to the top of the mountain gave me zest for life. We now have to leave…’Salanikale, sizobonana kwelizayo’--’Goodbye, see you next time’. Riaz
I felt really emotional about leaving the Homestay today. They really took us into the homes and deeply into their culture. The thing I enjoyed most, apart from the food, was definitely the bathing! Collecting your own water to wash was fun. I also love the hiking and truly made the most of every opportunity presented to us. Waseela
We left the Zulu village today. I felt sad leaving. The families were so nice and welcoming and it makes you question the life we have back home. Thet are so happy but people might consider them to be ‘poor’. Do we really need all the material possessions that we surround ourselves with? They have so little but are so happy. Jessica
